Principal Global Upstream Product Manager

Our client, a Top Global Medical Device company, the Global Upstream Product Manager will report to the Director of Strategy, Business Development and Licensing for Upstream Marketing. The role requires the development of intimate knowledge of customer needs in relation to the management Acute Respiratory Failure. Deep insight into existing markets and emerging solutions will inform the identification and development of new R&D and Merger, Acquisition and Licensing opportunities. 

Principal Global Upstream Product Manager - Key Responsibilities:

  • Establish relationships with clinical leaders to support development of new opportunities
  • Conduct Voice of Customer (ethnographic research, surveys, focus groups, advisory boards) and translate VoC into actionable insights and plans
  • Understand market structure / dynamics, develop competitive landscapes
  • Create market segmentation strategies, market models and financial forecasts for new solutions
  • Create business cases for new organic and inorganic opportunities and secure required funding
  • Develop a clear strategy to inform the pursuit new growth opportunities; communicate and promote with internal and external partners
  • Assess externally submitted opportunities and manage communications with internal / external stakeholders
  • Serve as the marketing lead through the launch phase of the project, owning the development of business plans and financial forecasts

Principal Global Product Manager Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree required; MBA preferred
  • Minimum of 7+ years of business experience in the healthcare industry (preferrable medical devices) including strategy, marketing, consulting, or business development experience. 
  • Technical background is a priority (engineering, finance, economics is preferred). Deep Upstream Experience including some or all of these skills desired:
  • Experience developing product roadmaps and or portfolio management plans
  • Experience analyzing markets, clinical needs, technologies
  • Success in building business cases / business plans to have led to internal or external funding
  • Business development experience is a plus (served as due diligence lead for an acquisition, led an integration, eg.)
  • Corporate strategy experience in medical device or similar healthcare industry
  • Investment banking experience
  • Experience starting new companies /raising investment capital
  • Travel: approximately 25%

Domain or Industry expertise preferred for the Global Product Manager:

  • Healthcare informatics
  • Critical Care technologies (anything in the ICU)
  • Respiratory (drug or device)
  • Cardiac bypass / dialysis, or extracorporeal lung support (also called ECMO or dialysis for the lungs)
  • Experience developing market models, understanding competitive trends and creating business strategy, developing new products and Business Development (M&A and Licensing) opportunities
  • Experience leading diverse, cross-functional project teams
  • Experience presenting to management
  • Strong expertise with Microsoft Excel, Project, Access and PowerPoint including Hands-on proficiency with spreadsheets, Excel macros, and the potential to use advanced decision support analytical tools (e.g., decision analysis software, monte-carlo simulation, optimization)
