The Sr. Mechanical Design Engineer in our Phoenix Office, is responsible for the design and oversight of mechanical system for new construction and retrofit projects. This position requires thorough knowledge of mechanical and HVAC systems for a wide range of facility types and projects varying in size and complexity. Engineering and design experience with a focus on energy efficiency, sustainability, cost effective and constructive solutions preferred.

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY

  • Responsible for deliverables and documentation such as calculations, drawings and specifications related to mechanical and HVAC systems.
  • Participate in the conceptual design effort on large and significant projects.
  • Prepare preliminary redline design layouts for estimating.
  • Perform design functions including equipment selection, system sizing, load calculations, product specifications and design layouts for mechanical and HVAC systems.
  • Assist in coordinating all aspects of the project design with other team members including design and trade team members.
  • Perform quality control of design documents.
  • Be responsible for code compliance.
  • Research and provide advice on new and innovative products and technologies.
  • Attend and participate in industry related conferences and seminars.
  • Direct and lead a group of junior mechanical design engineers.
  • Provide mechanical and HVAC design training to the Division.
  • Other duties and tasks as assigned by the Principal Engineer.

  • This position is principally an office job with strong emphasis on innovation.
  • The position will require frequent travel to Architects/Owners offices and job sites.


 

Required Experience


QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE

  • Education and/or Equivalent Experience - Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or University in mechanical engineering or architectural engineering.
  • Hold a Professional Mechanical Engineer license in good standing.
  • A minimum of 7-10 years of mechanical design and construction industry specific experience.
  • Must have excellent working knowledge of design engineering for mechanical and HVAC systems.
  • Desired experience on large and small office buildings, hotels, hospitals, data centers, central plants, cogeneration, high-tech manufacturing and laboratories.
  • Desired experience with integrated project delivery (IPD), target value design (TVD), and design-build (DB).
  • Desired experience with the design and construction of emerging or alternate mechanical system (DOAS, TDV, UFAD)
  • Desired experience with sustainable building design and building simulation energy modeling.
  • Desired Systems and Software Expertise:
    • Familiar with AutoCAD, Revit or similar design software applications.
    • Trane Trace (or equivalent) load calculation program.
    • Proficient knowledge in use of MS Excel, power point, project and word.
  • Desired Certifications:
    • LEED AP, CEM
  • Desired Industry participation:
    • ASHE
    • ASHRAE
